Hon. Reece Whitby Visits CTS Tyre Recycling

Dec 6, 2024

Getting closer now…

We are getting ever closer to our official opening and this week (Thursday 5th December) we were privileged to host the WA Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Action, the Honourable Reece Whitby MLA, and representatives from state government agencies, local government and industry for an inspection of our new tyre recycling facility.

This informal event gave our attendees the opportunity to view our state-of-the-art Eldan recycling line and the mighty Salvadori MT Rex and Super Wolverine pre-shredding machines.

The Neerabup project, valued at more than $40-million, will deliver a recycling plant to process waste tyres into crumb rubber, tyre derived products, reusable high tensile steel wire and reusable textile.

The new facility, supported by grants from the Western Australian and Commonwealth governments, will be the first in Australia capable of processing tyres of all sizes at one site, from small garden tyres to the largest 63-inch mining haul truck tyres. We had initially planned throughput of 30,000 tonnes per annum of end of life tyres diverted from landfill, however we are now expecting to process up to 60,000 tonnes per annum.

With the support of a further joint federal and state government grant, CTS Tyre Recycling has committed to a major additional capability, with the installation of a remanufacturing line.

The latest grant, of $4.5-million, was announced by Federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek and WA Environment Minister Reece Whitby as part of the joint-government Recycling Modernisation Fund.

It features best practices in tyre shredding and rubber product moulding technology, producing a range of remanufactured high-value rubber products.
