Demystifying Rubber Mulch: Applications and Benefits

As Australia pushes for smarter, more sustainable waste solutions, one recycled material is making serious traction: rubber mulch.

At CTS Tyre Recycling, we don’t just break down used tyres, we give them a second life through practical, forward-thinking upcycling.

What Is Rubber Mulch?

Rubber mulch is a high-quality, granulated material made from recycled tyres. It can be produced from passenger tyres, truck tyres, or even the world’s largest Off-the-Road (OTR) tyres used in mining and earthmoving.

Once the steel and fibres are removed, the remaining pure rubber is processed into uniform granules, varying in size from coarse chips to fine powder, tailored to suit different applications.

Our Processes

Step 1: Tyre Intake

Tyres, including passenger, truck, and OTR tyres, are collected and transported to our site in Neerabup. Our team handles the pickup and transport, making sure everything gets safely to our Neerabup site. No matter the size or volume, we work around our clients to keep the process simple and hassle-free.

Step 2: Primary Breakdown

At the facility, tyres go through initial size reduction using our Salvadori machinery. These machines are built to handle the toughest and largest OTR tyres, reducing them to downsized fragments ready for refinement.

Step 3: Fine Separation

After initial downsizing, the shredded tyres (including smaller tyres and pre-cut OTR material) are fed into our separation plant.

This state-of-the-art system uses mechanical separation to extract and purify the rubber. It separates out:

  • Rubber granules
  • Steel wire
  • Textile fibres

The result is a rubber mulch that’s up to 99% pure and ready for immediate use.

What We Create

Our tyre recycling process doesn’t just produce a replacement for traditional materials, it delivers a premium, performance-driven product.

Our rubber mulch is the perfect solution for garden beds, residential landscaping, and commercial edging.

Designed to last up to 10 years with minimal need for top-ups, rubber mulch offers a low-maintenance, long-term alternative to traditional mulch.

Safe for children and pets, it also helps block weeds and resists common garden pests, making it as practical as it is reliable.
